Under bright blue skies and warm autumn sunshine, cadets from the 9th JROTC Battalion at Ansbach Middle High School stepped into leadership roles, teaching Ansbach Elementary School Student Council members in fourth and fifth grade the importance of proper United States flag protocol.

The outdoor learning event provided Student Council members with a hands-on opportunity to explore the history, symbolism, and respectful handling of the American flag. Throughout the morning, JROTC cadets demonstrated proper procedures for displaying, carrying, folding, and honoring the flag while emphasizing the values of respect, responsibility, and citizenship.

The AES Student Council students listened attentively as cadets explained the meaning behind the stars and stripes and discussed why flag etiquette remains an important American tradition. Following the presentation, students participated in interactive demonstrations that allowed them to practice proper flag-handling techniques under the guidance of the high school cadets.

For members of the 9th JROTC Battalion, the event represented more than a lesson about flag protocol. It provided an opportunity to strengthen their leadership and mentoring skills while serving as positive role models for younger student leaders. Cadets patiently answered questions, demonstrated procedures, and encouraged the AES Student Council members to take pride in learning about American traditions and civic responsibility.

“The cadets did an outstanding job teaching and engaging the younger students,” said Ms. Anna Rudolph, fifth-grade teacher and Ansbach Elementary School Student Council sponsor. “They represented the values of JROTC through their professionalism, leadership, and dedication to service.”

The beautiful fall weather created an ideal setting for the lesson as students gathered outdoors to watch demonstrations and participate in discussions led by the cadets. The atmosphere was both educational and inspiring, highlighting the strong partnership between Ansbach schools and their shared commitment to developing future leaders.

The event exemplified the JROTC mission of motivating young people to become better citizens. By sharing their knowledge with younger students, the cadets demonstrated the core values of leadership, service, and respect while fostering a deeper appreciation for the American flag and the principles it represents.

As the lesson concluded, many AES Student Council members left with a greater understanding of flag protocol and a newfound admiration for the high school cadets who guided them through the experience.

The day served as a reminder that leadership is developed not only in the classroom but also through meaningful service to others and engagement within the community.

The 9th JROTC Battalion of Ansbach Middle High School continues to provide opportunities for cadets to lead by example, ensuring that the traditions of citizenship, respect, and community service remain strong for future generations.
