Ansbach JROTC marksmanship team wins regional championship
ANSBACH, Germany — The Ansbach JROTC marksmanship team recently traveled to Camp Perry, Ohio, to compete in the Army Service Regional Championship, where the precision team delivered a standout performance and earned first place in the regional competition.
In preparation for the event, the team spent several days refining their skills through focused training sessions held Tuesday through Thursday. Both the precision and sporter teams used the time to strengthen accuracy, consistency and teamwork before the competition officially began.
The championship competition started Friday and continued through Saturday, with cadets competing in both the precision and sporter categories.
The precision team produced an exceptional performance during the competition. Two cadets advanced to the finals: freshmen Cadets August Bulinski and Pashmina Larson. Both shooters demonstrated composure and focus under pressure. Cadet Bulinski finished sixth in the finals, while Cadet Larson earned fourth place, an impressive accomplishment in a highly competitive field.
The precision team’s strong performance secured first place in the regional competition. Their results also contributed to the team earning second place overall among Army JROTC programs, highlighting the dedication and preparation that went into the event.
The sporter team also competed throughout the championship and finished 12th in the Ohio competition. While the results were challenging, the team gained valuable experience and continued to grow as competitors.
Marksmanship competitions demand discipline, patience and concentration. Legendary competitive shooter Gary Anderson once said, “The most important thing in shooting is consistency. The best shooters are the ones who can repeat the same good shot over and over.”
Anderson also emphasized the mental side of the sport, saying, “Success in shooting comes from concentration, control, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.” Those qualities were evident throughout the competition as the cadets represented their program with pride.
The trip to Ohio served not only as a competition but also as a valuable learning experience. From days of preparation to the intensity of the finals, the team demonstrated determination, teamwork and resilience.
Following their regional victory, the precision team will return to Camp Perry to compete in the JROTC All-Services Championship.
